Course Outline

Systemic investigations give huge bang for buck. They can deal with hundreds, or even thousands of complaints, in one fell swoop. They can give the investigative agency a huge positive public profile, which is why more and more of them want to do them. How do you identify systemic issues and then decide whether or not you are going to deal with them? How best to conduct the investigation? How do you to develop and stick to strict timelines? We examine in detail the highly successful approaches developed by the world leaders in systemic investigations; methodologies that can easily be adapted by other agencies to meet their needs.

One of the most effective ways for oversight offices to demonstrate their value is by conducting systemic investigations. These are high profile, targeted, closely managed and executed investigations that deal with the root causes of hundreds or thousands of complaints - in one fell swoop.

This course is a primer for individuals interested in exploring how to carry out systemic investigations efficiently and effectively. It covers how to identify potential cases, how to craft a strategic, measured, incremental approach that will build confidence and capacity, create specialist investigative teams without causing disruption, motivate employees at all levels, get buy in all constituents, deal with roadblocks, manage expectations and showcase achievements.
